We traveled up to The Entrance for Chromefest 2026 and stayed at The Oaks for 4 nights (checked in on the Thursday and checked out on the Monday). Our room was on the 5th floor and was easily accessible once you worked out the swipe requirement in the lifts. We booked early and received a pretty good "early bird" rate (be mindful there are T&C's attached to this type of booking) compared to the normal rates, so that was a bonus. On checking in we received a bottle of wine & a small package of nibblies as we are members of this chain of motels - so another bonus! This place is over 20 years old and is starting to show it with plenty of the normal sort of defects you can find anywhere in a place of this age, that said, there were a few disappointing issues that really can't be excused - such as dirty sheer curtains, light shades that probably need replacing, leaking taps in the shower etc. Most of the deficiencies can be overlooked because of the location, everything we needed to get to was easy and the views from the room were excellent. The only thing that really annoyed me was the $20.00 per night to park my car in the building carpark, in my opinion when staying at an establishment, parking should be part of the deal; not an extra!

Given the high price paid for the accommodation, I expected a high standard of cleanliness, maintenance and comfort. Unfortunately, the condition of the room fell well below any reasonable expectation and made for a very disappointing experience. The number of issues encountered was unacceptable for a hotel charging premium rates. During our stay, we experienced the following problems: Dirty and used linen on the sofa bed, which was completely unacceptable and raised serious concerns about the cleanliness of the accommodation. The outside screen door was off its hinges, and the fly screen was ripped, indicating a lack of basic maintenance. A leg was missing from the refrigerator, leaving it in a poor and potentially unstable condition. The refrigerator was warm and not cooling properly, making it unsuitable for storing food and drinks on arrival. The upstairs wardrobe was inaccessible because its door was off its hinges. The television and house phone were not working, meaning basic in-room facilities were unavailable. The dining and lounge chairs were filthy, soiled and stained, creating an unpleasant environment and raising further concerns about the overall hygiene of the room. The bathroom waste grate was mouldy, and when a floor towel was used, it picked up mould from the affected area, which was particularly concerning from a hygiene perspective. The swim up bar which my children were so excited to grab a juice from has not been open for what looked like years. It was certainly in a terrible state and boarded up. Individually, these issues would have been disappointing. Taken together, they demonstrate a significant failure to maintain the property to an acceptable standard. The dirty linen, mould and heavily soiled furniture were especially concerning, while the numerous maintenance issues further detracted from our stay. I attempted to contact the hotel afterwards via 2 emails and a contact number which both failed.
