World Class Wine in the Gibbston Valley

冒险 美酒佳肴 家庭 浪漫
Less than half an hour from Oaks Shores and Oaks Club Resort, in Queenstown is a wine region which is amongst the finest in the world. With over 75 wineries, and popularly known for its Pinot Noir, the only way to explore the Gibbston Valley is via a tour because there is no way you will be driving home!

If you're not the biggest wine lover, come along anyway because there is so much to experience from craft beers, gourmet restaurants, chocolate tastings, boutique shops and the breathtaking scenery to make the day one to remember and here’s our top 3 recommendations.

1. Wine Cave Tour
To enjoy the Gibbston Valley at its finest, we would recommend booking the ‘Wine cave tour with platter lunch and transport’ for $145 per couple ($72.50 per person). It is truly the best way to enjoy all the Gibson Valley has to offer at a very affordable price. However, if you’re a bit more of a free spirit, take the bus into the valley and explore on your own. Wine tastings at Cellar Door start from as little as $5!

2. Gibbston Valley Cheese
A visit to this quaint cheesery located next to the winery is a must, with a variety of different cheeses for all tastes. Our favourite is the washed rind selection but make sure you order the cheese board to sample all of the options. The cheesery is open daily and offers complimentary tastings of gourmet cheeses handcrafted in the traditional European style and made using New Zealand's finest sheep, cow and goat milk.

3. Ride the Gibbston River Trail

If you’re a wine lover but seeking a bit more of an adventure, ditch the traditional transport option and ride a bike through the valley. Hire a bike at the Gibbston Valley Cycle Centre from $35 for a half day or $65 for a full day and make your way around some of New Zealand’s most adventurous yet scenic trails with great picnic spots along the way. We recommend riding the Gibbston River Trail, this easy trail takes riders through the beautiful Central Otago wine region and to various attractions including the historic Kawarau Bridge and nearby wineries.
Heading further out of town or up into the North Island? Make sure you stop by these iconic wine regions; the Marlborough, Nelson, Wairarapa, Hawkes Bay and Waikato.
