Uncover The Best Mackay has to offer in just 2 Days

美酒佳肴 浪漫 自驾游 海滩 冒险 家庭

Located on Queensland’s East Coast, this historical farming town which began development in the 1860’s has turned into a thriving hot spot as Mackay services the majority of Central Queensland mining towns, as well as maintaining a strong farming presence for Australian sugar cane. Whether you are travelling with friends, family or as a couple Mackay has plenty of buzz to light up your night but retains its rustic country feel when you’re exploring by day.

WHERE TO FIRST? COFFEE OF COURSE
Once you have dropped off the car and your bags at Oaks Carlyle or Oaks Rivermarque you are well within walking distance to some of Mackay’s best local to-do’s. Head onto Wood Street to find the quirky coffee and antique house Esther’s Antiques. Her homemade cakes are delicious and there is always something new to try. Paired with a coffee for only $6, how can you go wrong?

LOCAL SIGHTS

Take your time and get lost in the collection of old and new, you may just find that something you didn’t even know you were looking for. Stroll over to Bluewater Lagoon in Caneland Park, only 10 minutes on foot, and cool off in the man-made lagoon complete with a waterslide, waterfall and varying depths to suit everyone. Soak up some sun on the grassy areas, make use of the public BBQ’s with a classic sausage sizzle or grab an afternoon snack at the Bluewater Lagoon Café. The public facility is completely free of charge and is open from 9 am 7 days, all year round.

FOODIE FAVS
Walk along Victoria Street for a wide range of dinner options; for a family friendly dining option we would recommend Rib n Rumps or Sorbello’s Italian Restaurant. If you are with friends or your partner, wander further and check out Maria’s Donkey Tapas Bar or BURP for that chic weekend vibe any night of the week. With extensive wine lists, classic cocktails, craft beers and a menu designed to share, Maria’s Donkey and BURP are great for a social night out or an intimate dinner for two.

DAY TRIPS

Make the most of day 2 in Mackay and take an early morning walk or bike ride along the Blue Water Trail before heading out to Keswick Island on a day trip for a day of water sports, bush-walking, fish feeding and a classic Australian BBQ lunch. Or travel to Eungella National Park where if you’re lucky enough, and quiet enough, you can spot a platypus in its natural habitat as well as various species of birds. You stop off at Pinacle Hotel to sample their famous pie and then take another short walk to explore the gorge and waterfalls. If you can’t decide whether to head out to sea or trek inland, stay on for an extra day and do both, why not, you are on holidays after all!
