Broome on a Budget

海滩 家庭 冒险
Perched along a stretch of glorious West Australian coastline and with balmy weather on tap all year long, Broome is an ideal family-friendly holiday destination, which can be enjoyed at any time of the year. With a myriad of low-cost activities to keep the whole family entertained, we’ve picked our top  experiences for families looking to add Broome to their bucket list.

1. Sun Pictures Broome
As Australia’s oldest operating outdoor movie theatre, Sun Pictures Broome is a welcome step back in time, with a fascinating heritage dating back over 100 years. Learn about the colourful and long running history of the theatre, artfully restored to its former glory, then sit back and watch a film under the stars with a blanket and popcorn. History tours start from $5, while cinema tickets are priced from $12 for kids and $17 for adults.

2. Cable Beach
Arguably one of Western Australia’s most beautiful beaches, travelling families will relish the soft, white sand, red ochre cliffs and stunning turquoise waters of Cable Beach. With patrolled swimming areas for added safety and parents’ peace of mind, kids will love trailing along the sandscape as they explore the hidden treasure troves and rock pools along the way. Cable Beach is also well equipped with toilet and changing facilities and a children’s playground, while beach umbrellas and sun loungers are available for hire from the local Surf Life Saving Club.

3. Broome Courthouse Markets
If market shopping is more your style, spend your day trawling the vibrant stalls at the Broome Courthouse Markets, with everything from handmade jewellery, home-wares, candles, and leather goods on offer. When hunger strikes, the finest local and international flavours are waiting to be sampled from the various food vendors. Markets run every Saturday all year long, while night markets now run every Thursday from 5.00pm – 8.00pm at Town Beach Reserve.

4. Dinosaur Tracks at Gantheaume Point
Just 10 minutes from Broome’s town centre, dinosaur enthusiasts of all ages will discover a cast of prehistoric dinosaur footprints preserved in reef rock at Gantheaume Point when the tide is running low. Kids will love comparing their footprints to that of the dinosaurs left some 130 million years ago. Follow the track to see how many unique footprints you can find!

5. Camel Tours
Quite possibly Broome’s most iconic tourism experience, enjoy a memorable sunset camel ride across the magnificent Cable Beach as the sun dips into the ocean. The 30-minute journey is priced from $45 for adults and $35 for children (varying seasonally). For those on a budget, you can also watch from a distance as the camels meander along the breathtaking landscape at sunrise and sunset each day.

6. Malcolm Douglas Crocodile Park
Get up close and personal with these amazing salt water creatures, make sure you catch the daily 3pm feeding! Hear tales from a man who has dedicated his life to conservation. The park has a range of creatures and exhibits to explore. Adult tickets cost $30 while a family of four can get a pass for $90. This is one of Broome's most loved attractions, located close to the town centre. res

Oaks Cable Beach Sanctuary is a stunning resort close to Cable Beach where as Oaks Broome is right in the heart of town.
